Knowing we're meeting the girls today, combined with jetlag, is making it hard for us to sleep. I'm on a listserv of people who have adopted or are in the process of adopting from Russia. I recently asked if any of them would be open to sharing their experiences of first meeting their children. Many responded. Their experiences on that first meeting varied greatly from the children being afraid of them and screaming (toddlers usually have stranger anxiety) or being withdrawn to coming up to them and calling them "Mama" and "Papa". Whatever happened on that first day, the majority are well attached to their adoptive parents now. So we don't know what to expect today, but we'll be bringing some toys and Teddy Grahams and goldfish crackers along with us to help draw the girls to us.
